What Is the Chipmunks Dance Trend?
What the chipmunks dance trend is, where it spread, the sound behind it and how to make your own AI trio video from one photo.

The chipmunks dance is a group dance for exactly three people that has been spreading on TikTok and Instagram Reels since mid-October 2026. Dancers dress as Alvin, Simon and Theodore, or just as three friends or pets, and move in sync in a row. Chipmunks Dance turns one photo into a three-dancer video of the routine.
What the Routine Looks Like
Three dancers stand in a row, left, middle and right, and move together while trading the front spot. Each dancer takes a turn in front, one turns their back to the camera, and a dancer steps up to the camera at the end. Sources disagree on the exact moves and timing, so think of it as a loose routine rather than fixed steps.
The classic look is red for Alvin, blue for Simon and green for Theodore, often with chipmunk ears. Plenty of posts skip the costumes and use three friends, siblings or pets, such as three kittens in red, green and blue hoodies.
Where and When It Spread
The first posts people have found date from 16 to 20 October 2026, and nobody has established who posted the very first one. Google searches for "chipmunks dance" started rising around 20 October 2026 and kept rising through 2 November. Common hashtags are #chipmunksdance, #alvinandthechipmunks, #chipettes, #youspinmeround, #bigandchunky, #triodance and, around Halloween, #triocostume.
The Sound Behind It
Posts use a sped-up, high-pitched chipmunk-voiced version of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)", the 1984 single by Dead or Alive that reached number one in the UK in March 1985. One explainer says the sound also mixes in "Big and Chunky" from Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Many posts also use the Chipmunks' own version of the song from the 2009 film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
What the AI Version Does
The video is made from your photo and the routine, not cut from anyone's post.
- From the trend: a row of three dancers, swapping places, turns and a step up to the camera, set to a fast club-style dance beat.
- From your photo: the people or pets who become the dancers. If your photo shows fewer than three, the missing dancers are made to look like the ones pictured.
The result is a vertical 9:16 MP4 in 720p, up to 15 seconds, with an instrumental beat and no watermark. Add the trending sound from the TikTok or Reels sound library when you post.
Make Your Own
Open the generator on the homepage, upload one photo and pick 6, 10 or 15 seconds (6, 13 or 20 credits). The full steps are in the how-to guide.
